Painting the essence of Rajasthan

first_imgRajasthan remains one of the most intriguing places in India for Priyanka Banerjee, who will be displaying her work in a solo exhibition titled ‘Vibrant Rajasthan’. Drawing inspiration from her travel, Priyanka has tried to capture the heart and soul of the place. The exhibition by the artist is open for all at the Open palm court, India Habitat Center from July 27-29, 10 am to 7pm everyday.According to Priyanka, the princely state is full of mesmerizing forts and palaces which speaks of many tales of the bygone era. The colorful state reminds her of the victories and conquests of the rulers. Also Read – Add new books to your shelfInspired by the architecture of Rajasthan which is unique and is based on the Rajput school of architecture, the artist says, “Interplay of light and shadows on the architectural marvels has always captivated me and has compelled me to transform the magic in my paintings.””The havelis and jharokhas evoke an age of regal Rajput elegance. They have found a special place in my paintings. Jharokhas are types of overhanging enclosed balconies found in havelis, temples and palaces in Rajasthan,” she further reveals. Their smiling faces, the holy sages of Pushkar, the conversation of the camel owners after a day’s labour have become favorite subjects of my artworks.”last_img
