Dudley Lewis said to Magnetic Media that, “since the Government waived fees for documents to register to vote, there has been a drastic increase in the number of persons registering.” There had been concern expressed that the cost to get a National Status card was affecting voter registration and despite initially shunning that report, the PNP Administration eventually worked in Cabinet to see that fees were waived for first time voters. A National Status card is mandatory to be included on the voter register. The announcement was made in August; the waiver lasts until December 1 as voter registration ends on November 30. Up to March 2014, Mr. Lewis said that there were nearly 3,000 eligible voters still unregistered, the bulk of whom are youth.
