MOTORMOUTH RODDY COLLINS SAY LEAGUE OF IRELAND WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT FINN HARPS

first_imgFormer Derry City and Bohemians manager Roddy Collins has said that the League of Ireland would be better off without Finn Harps FC. In his weekly column with the Irish Daily Star, Collins made a series of controversial remarks regarding the structure of the League. His suggestion that Finn Harps should be ‘sacrificed’ for the long-term benefit of the League will incur the wrath of the Finn Harps fan base. His ridiculous comments come as Finn Harps currently enjoy their best start of the season since 1983.Ollie Horgan’s side sit top of the First Division by FIVE points and are unbeaten after eight matches, keeping seven clean sheets in the process. However, Harps weren’t the only side Collins believes the FAI should sacrifice, he thinks ALL clubs in Dublin apart from Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians should be permitted from competing in the league. He feels both clubs have a huge fan base and that it would get even bigger if St Patrick’s Athletic and Shelbourne bowed out of the league. Collins cited that the 6,000 that packed into Turner’s Cross on Friday night for the match between Cork City and Dundalk was positive but wouldn’t need to be a one off if the league made the tough and unpopular decisions for the greater good of the league.Regarding Harps, Collins said, “Look at the North-West and you have great potential with Sligo Rovers and Derry City.“Finn Harps have great tradition, but that is in the past.“There are great people at the club and they are doing their best to get the club back to the Premier Division. But how big can they become? Not big enough in my opinion. Collins also had a pop at former Finn Harps supremo and current Derry City manager Peter Hutton. He said he had failed the TEN game test at Derry City.MOTORMOUTH RODDY COLLINS SAY LEAGUE OF IRELAND WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT FINN HARPS was last modified: April 27th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Finn Harps FCHome-page SportLeague of IrelandnewsRoddy Collinslast_img
