Illinois State Pushes Past Volleyball, 3-0

first_img NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State defeated the Drake University volleyball team, 3-0, in the Bulldogs’ final road match of the season Saturday evening.Emily Plock paced the Bulldogs again with an 11-kill, 13-dig double-double and Michele Rabbitt bounced back to record 13 kills in the loss on 43 attempts to hit .279.Illinois State (15-11, 8-6 MVC) defeated the Bulldogs by set scores of 25-13, 26-24, 31-29. The Redbirds were led by 16 kills from Kaylee Martin and Sydney Holt. Stef Jankiewicz added 44 assists.Drake (9-19, 3-12 MVC) showed its usual fight in the match, battling off five match points to close the match and force extra points. However, Drake had a 24-20 lead in the set before Illinois State fought off four set points behind Jankiewicz’s serving and three Drake errors to tie the set at 24-24 before ISU rallied to close the set and match at 31-29.Drake erased a four-point deficit late in the second set to again force extra points, but kills from Martin and Monica Miller gave the Redbirds the two-point cushion to take the set.Those two thrilling sets came after Drake stumbled out of the gates in trailing 13-3 early in first set to never seriously contend in dropping the frame, 25-13. The Bulldogs return home for their next three matches, starting with a Friday, Nov. 15, match against UNI.
