‘Chelsea will still win title’ former Blues striker tells talkSPORT

first_imgFormer Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has backed the Blues to bounce back from their surprise defeat to Newcastle and go on to win the Premier League.Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season in all competitions this weekend, a result that has seen their lead at the top of the table cut to just three points. But Cascarino has backed Jose Mourinho’s men to kick on and claim a fourth Premier League title.“I think they’ll do it,” the ex-Blues’ star told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.“I think they’ve got a bit more than [Manchester] City. If you get City’s best XI, they can match anybody – there’s no doubt about that. Chelsea are a better organised team though. Yesterday was a bad result, but I think they’ll bounce back and be fine.”Cascarino continued by saying that while the defeat will be disappointing for the west London side, it could prove to be a blessing in disguise.“In some ways it takes the monkey off the back of Chelsea. I thought they could go the whole season unbeaten. You have to give Newcastle credit though.”Chelsea’s defeat was slightly tainted by Mourinho’s comments that the Newcastle ball-boys were time-wasting, while on the pitch star striker Diego Costa’s struggles to find his early season form continued, but Cascarino believe the Spaniard will rediscover his shooting boots soon.“He’ll be fine. If there’s one thing I’m certain of, it’s that I look at him and there’s hunger and desire. It’s a tricky period for him. He hasn’t quite played to the level of September and October, but he’ll be fine.”last_img
